Accountant

Reporting to the Financial Manager, the Accountant will be responsible for the integrity of the accounts up to general ledger, enforcement of accounting policy and procedure as well as implementation of department SOP’s.


KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:

Month End

  • Ensure that month end procedures are done accurately and in a timeous manner
  • Ensure all spreadsheets are updated correctly

Petty Cash

  • Keep accurate record of all funds taken from petty cash
  • Prepare reconciliation when float needs replenishing
  • Only give cash for valid uses otherwise obtain approval from FD
  • Ensure that cash is not used at places where we have accounts

Banking

  • Ensure CFC and Rand account are kept up to date on Syspro and captured correctly

Fixed Assets

  • Maintain Fixed Asset Register
  • Ensure all processes are adhered to regarding fixed assets

Statutory

  • Ensure adherence to all statutory requirements

Audit

  • Attend to all auditor queries
  • Meet audit deadline

Account Maintenance

  • Ensure the account map is up to date
  • Ensure there are no mis-postings during the month
  • Reconcile balance sheet to supporting documents
  • Keep schedule of related party transactions
  • Ensure entries are captured in the correct period
  • Ensure that accounting is accurate up to TB level

People Management

  • Build and maintain an effective team
    • Ensuring that the operating objectives and standards of performance are not only understood but owned by the team members.
    • Monitoring the actions and performance of all team members.
    • Continuous guidance and mentoring activities to the team members.
  • Ensure a disciplined workforce is maintained / resolving disciplinary issues according to the Company Policies.
  • Ensure a highly skilled and motivated workforce is maintained.
  • Implement Succession planning in reporting departments.

Ad Hoc

  • Perform ad hoc tasks as and when required.
  • Integrity of all accounting processes
  • Develop and maintain all related financial SOP’s and internal controls
  • Continuous risk assessment – look for areas of improvement
  • Compile, manage and report on all aspects of R&C budgets
  • Work with all departments to find additional savings

 


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum qualification: Diploma in Financial and Accounting.
  • Ideal qualification:  B.Acc, BCom. Financial Accounting, AGA(SA) or SAIPA
  • 5 years relevant experience in a manufacturing environment in a similar role.
  • Experience in understanding BOM’s and costing in a manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Own transport and valid driver’s license.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, experience with SYSPRO advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of Bills of Material essential.
  • Advanced MS Excel Skills (i.e. Pivot Tables, ODBC reports, Formulas and Macros).
